I ended up buying the McMurdo 210 at Defender.com

Selling at $209 thru Sunday for anyone looking for one now.

Thanks for your responses,  Brad

That's a good price. I try not to remember, but my McMurdo was over $500 when bought five years ago.

KB,

Ouch!  Just like computers, but worth every penny if your life depends on it.

Hope to be back for NCC 2011 a little wiser and healthier. Do these FastFinds include an extra brain?   I missed the start, hit bridge #2, and paddled extra miles in Harlowe Creek (figure that one out) just to make it more challenging!  Funny when you look back on things...

Brad

210 is now much cheaper than comparable ACR Microfix or ACR Aqualink, so I was curious to find out why (and couldn't).  Probably just more aggressive marketing.

The differences that I found was smaller size of McMurdo 210, single-use antenna cover, and 24 hours battery life - compared to multiple use of antenna cover on ACR and 30-35 hours of transmission. Here is an article on 210

Have just found a better review on 210. What bugs me is how this will work with somebody swimming in PFD (mostly vertically) and Fastfind 210 sitting on the shoulder strap also vertically, - antenna would stick out parallel to water. Of course, first you'd have to take it off the shoulder or out of the pocket and use both hands (or your teeth) to rip the cover off. After this it would stay on your PFD.

ACR units have antenna pointed at 45 degrees up or completely up (and operation is one-handed).
