The CFC has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Refunds have already been issued.

I feel sorry for the people who have already been training and scheduling for the trip...  How will there ever be interest if the plug keeps getting pulled?  Seems like a race with even a few entrants would set the stage for more entries in the future.  Maybe the EC and NCC are enough, though....  I'll shut up.

I was just selected for a new job that will start the 1st of June so I had to withdraw.  When I checked the roster yesterday there were still seven competitors signed up.  It's hard to believe they all withdrew at the same time.

The Juice and I were just figuring out our gas money to do the thing. Our plan was - same three person boat but this time in Class 6 with three paddlers.

I fully understand the frustration of a race director who is not getting sign-ups and yet is doing a lot of behind the scenes things to bring it all together. It doesn't seem like his excitement is being shared by others. The constant convincing and re-convincing of park officials is one of these behind the scenes things that can get very tiresome.

The thing is - often entrants won't, don't, or can't sign up until the last minute. This leaves the race director wondering the whole time if anybody gives a damn.

Druce and I hadn't made our intentions known because we are still figuring out the whole gas money thing from AZ to FL. We were very excited yesterday to see the 40% discount for 2011 EC'ers.  In our case we didn't want to commit to the race until we knew for sure that we could make it.

Anyway - next year.

That effectively knocks me out of the 2012 UFC as well.  Without the CFC I can't qualify for the UFC.  All this training, planning, now all wasted.  I even had to choose between the Texas Water Safari and the CFC and chose the CFC.  Now I can't do either .....  or the UFC. When this sinks in I'm gonna be really pissed off .......  so exactly who has a lack of interest here?

Bummer...  I'm not sure how many entrants would have made the CFC viable.  Seems like there were more than the last UFC.  I for one had already paid the fee.  A day later, a refund.  I'm not at all sure if I would have been able to do the UFC, but, I needed the CFC to qualify.  I guess I'll have to wait until I'm a bit older.  Hee, hee.
And, all that cool stuff I have coming.  I suppose it won't go bad.  Anyone want to still do the cruise ?  Or some portion of it ?
If any of you out there were on the fence about entering the CFC, speak up.  Maybe we can get the decision reversed.    Royd

For those who were planning on an expedition event in early June and are disappointed with the cancellation of the CFC . . . there is still the Tip of the Mitt Aventure that launches June 18th in Oscoda, MI.  If you enjoy portaging . . . there are a few portages to provide some distraction from day-in-day-out paddling.  If it's big water your seeking . . . there's over 300 miles of it with some of the finest scenery around.  Don't pay any attention to what WhiteCaps has to say about paddling the Great Lakes excepting that the water is a bit "coolish" . . . and whatever you do, don't waste your time looking for his sand dunes on the Gulf Coast of Florida.  The real dunes are up on Lake Michigan. Unlike anything you've ever seen.

Everyone I saw on the UFC 2012 roster is already pre-qualified and the Chief has additonally agreed to waive the CFC as a pre-requisite for Spidennis's participation in the UFC 2012. However, if there are others out here who seeking a race that would qualify you for  the UFC . . . contact the Chief off forum and ask him if completion of the Tip of the Mitt will serve as a qualifier.  It's a tough event . . . tougher than the EC, and the Chief's done it . . . he knows.

I would personally like to invite each and everyone of you up for the TOM in June; Check the roster as there are quite a few Tribers already coming  - maybe we can't call it a WaterTribe event, but we can call it the gathering of the Clan.

I've spoken to Whitecaps personally and he is willing to demonstrate how to make armadillo stew as seen in the UFC 2010 on KCA blog.

C'mon Kap . . . you're not talking about opossum in the half-shell and grits are you?  WC needs to leave those recipes behind and to undertake a change of diet so he can open up those clogged arteries . . . he needs some good Yankee food.

Pasties (no WC . . . not the kind the girls wear in Vegas)
Beer
Poached eggs on corned beef hash
Beer
Steak Tartar

Popcorn

Custard ice cream
